The KAI 7240AS is a pair of 9.5" (24 cm) aramid scissors from the KAI 7000 Series with a micro-serrated cutting edge, AUS8A stainless steel blades (60.5±1.5 HRC), full-tang construction and a duplex interlock fastener. KAI designed them specifically for aramid fabrics; they also cut carbon and other special fibres, textiles, leather and film. 8.0 cm cutting length, 212 g, grey handle.
The KAI 7000 Series comprises professional tailor's shears from the Japanese cutlery maker KAI from Seki. The AUS8A stainless steel blades are hardened to 60.5±1.5 HRC, 3.7–4 mm thick and run through into the handles (full tang). The duplex interlock fastener (45±1 HRC) keeps the tension set. The series won the iF Design Award in 2005.
Lengths range from 8" (20.5 cm) to 12" (30 cm), plus the lighter 7250SL, the left-handed 7250L, the micro-serrated 7250SE and the 7240AS aramid scissors. They cut textiles, leather, special fibres such as aramid and carbon, paper, film, rubber and plastics – in tailoring, garment manufacturing, upholstery and technical textiles.

Frequently asked questions
Which KAI 7000 Series size is best for cutting fabric?
For cutting at the table, the 10" (25 cm) models 7250, 7250SL, 7250SE and 7250L with a 9.5 cm cutting length are a common choice. The 7205 (20.5 cm) and 7230 (23 cm) are handier for curves and details, the 7280 (28 cm) and 7300 (30 cm) suit long cuts in fabric lengths.
What is the micro-serration on the 7250SE and 7240AS for?
The fine serration on the cutting edge grips smooth, slippery and tough materials so they do not slide forward as the blades close. KAI designed the 7240AS specifically for aramid fabrics; the 7250SE is the micro-serrated version of the 7250.
How does the KAI 7000 Series differ from the N5000 Series?
The 7000 Series has 3.7–4 mm AUS8A stainless steel blades at 60.5±1.5 HRC and a duplex interlock fastener. The N5000 Series uses 5Cr15MoV or 1K6 stainless steel (56 HRC, 1.8–3.5 mm), a brass adjustment screw and, on most models, elastomer soft handles, which the 7000 Series does not have.
