Prym elastic sewing thread is a highly stretchable 0.5 mm thread for sewing and needlework. On the sewing machine it creates gathers or stabilises selected areas of fabric; in knitting and crochet it works as a carry-along yarn for elastic hats and cuffs.
The braided thread consists of 50 % elastane and 50 % polyamide, and its high elastane content makes it particularly stretchy. It can be threaded through or sewn in. Each 20 m length is wound on a sewing machine bobbin; a groove on the base and lid of the bobbin holds the thread end while the work is resting.
