Description

Note: Plain steel (German: "blank") means the steel is untreated – no nickel plating or other surface finish, which usually makes this version a little more economical. The surface is protected only by oil. Keep the blades and shank lightly oiled and oil the joint regularly, otherwise humidity can cause tarnish or rust. The cutting edge itself is ground bare on every version. If you prefer a lower-maintenance surface, choose a nickel- or chrome-plated version.

Country of origin: European Union (Germany)

The WASA Buttonhole Scissors 5" is compact buttonhole scissors with short, sturdy edges. Version: plain steel, straight.

WASA buttonhole scissors have short, sturdy edges for opening buttonholes cleanly and in a controlled way. Straight versions suit cutting from above, curved ones working flat on the fabric. Available in plain steel or nickel-plated.

WASA stands for Waldmin & Saam: the scissor manufacturer was founded in Solingen in 1907 by August Waldmin and Friedrich Saam and is still known today for forged quality scissors – above all embroidery and needlework scissors.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a buttonhole safely?
Pierce the centre of the buttonhole with the tip and cut towards each end – this keeps the bar tacks intact.

What does "plain steel" (blank) mean for a WASA scissor?
It means untreated steel without nickel plating. The surface is only oiled, so blades, shank and joint should be lightly oiled regularly to prevent tarnish or rust. Nickel- or chrome-plated versions need less care.
