The TEXTILIA counting awl, also called counting needle, is an aid for fabric analysis. Its fine needle is used under a thread counter (thread counter loupe) to point to and count individual warp and weft threads, for example to determine the thread density of a fabric. A counting awl is also part of the 8-piece TEXTILIA set.
It is made by TEXTILIA Stahlwaren-Manufaktur in Solingen, Germany. The company traces its roots to a grinding shop founded in 1854, has used the TEXTILIA brand since 1931 and has made tools for the textile industry since 1950, including thread counter loupes, burling irons and cloth pickers.
